This past weekend, Verizon announced that it planned to roll out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to the original Motorola Droid, beginning August 2nd. What’s a couple of the biggest pluses to Froyo? Wireless hotspot and tethering options. However, in a statement made by Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney, the 2.2 update to the Motorola Droid will be missing these features. According to an email sent from Raney to phonescoop,
The Droid by Motorola doesn’t have [the] hardware to support a Mobile Hotspot. With tethering there is no Connection on the PC side that will allow you to tether the device so the answer is that option isn’t part of this update.
Also mentioned in the email is the fact that the update will first roll out to a small subset of users to ensure compatibility and usability, after which VZW will roll it out to the rest of the Droids.
