Nokia 7 Plus confirmed to get Android Pie update during September 2

After Google announced that Android P stood for Android Pie a couple of weeks ago, the race is on for smartphone brands to reveal which of their handsets will be upgraded to this latest version of Android. We've seen HTC, Sony, and Motorola announced lists of eligible devices, and Nokia has revealed that all of its Android-powered handsets would get the Android Pie update in due course. The Nokia 7 Plus will be the first Nokia smartphone to get upgraded to Android Pie, with the software update scheduled to roll out during September.

It's no surprise that the Nokia 7 Plus will be the first model to get the Pie update; after all, the handset was part of the third-party Android beta program that also featured OnePlus and Sony, among others. According to Android Central, HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, confirmed that the Nokia 7 Plus would be the first Snapdragon 660 smartphone to be upgraded to Android Pie.

The rest of the Nokia-branded Android smartphones will get the Android Pie update as time progresses, with the higher-specced models such as the Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 6.1 likely to get the update sooner than later.

You might be asking why companies such as Essential, who rolled out their Pie update just minutes after Google announced the final release, and Nokia can manage such a quick turnaround. Well, it's likely that both companies offer a stock Android-like experience and don't have to contend with heavy custom overlays that we see with Samsung, Huawei, and LG phones. Following that pattern, we can probably expect the OnePlus 6 to get the Pie update in the next couple of weeks as well.

If you own a Nokia 7 Plus, are you looking forward to getting the Android Pie update? Let us know in the comments below.
