With the Nexus 5 comes new software. And with new software comes an updated version of Google Play Services. Today, Google Play Services has been updated to version 4.0. In this new version, changes have been made to Mobile Ads, Maps and location services, Google+ and Google Wallet, and new advertising controls. Hit the break for details and the link from the official Android Developers Blog.

The new Google Mobile Ads SDK now allows easier improvements to be for your app's users. Google says that “bug fixes get pushed automatically to users without you having to do anything.”

The changes to Maps and location services “have been updated to improve overall battery efficiency and responsiveness.” This means that using these services should have a lower impact on your device's battery life. Alerts are only sent to users once they have been within a certain location for a period of time.

Google adds that “Google Wallet Instant Buy also includes new Wallet Objects, which means you can award loyalty points to a user's saved rewards program ID for each applicable Google Wallet Instant Buy purchase.” Users now have a little bit more incentive for making Instant Buy purchases.
