A little over a year since Microsoft enabled the Xbox skill for Alexa, the company has finally given Xbox One users a second alternative to its Cortana virtual assistant. That's right, hell has frozen over because Microsoft has finally given us the ability to issue voice commands to the Xbox One via Google Assistant in the form of a public beta. While this isn't going to turn your Xbox One into a superpowered Nest Home device, it does mean that you can use your voice to tell it to power on or off, or to load up your favorite game without touching a controller or remote.
All you have to do is set up the Xbox with your Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet. There are a couple of steps to this, so join us after the break to find out how you can add Google Assistant commands to your Xbox One.
Step One
- First things first, you need to join this Google Group with the Google account that you plan on using in order to gain access to the Public Beta. Once that has been done, we can move on to the next step.
