It seems that consumers will need to get used to the prices of digital and mobile services getting higher and higher since the big businesses at the other end are looking to widen profit margins further. If you're subscribed to any streaming service, you know what I'm talking about, and the same applies to mobile carriers.

This time, it is one of the Big Three, T-Mobile in this instance, that is ready to hit its large consumer base with another price increase. This isn't official yet, but we know thanks to the fact that an internal slide has seemingly been leaked the way of the internet.

T-Mobile Is Going To Be Increasing Some Customers' Prices Today

As a loyal customer of any service, it's hard to avoid price hikes, because you could have been using the service religiously for a decade and when the bigwigs decide that they want to ramp up their pricing model, you'll have very little choice in the matter (beyond potentially moving to another service). Today, it's T-Mobile, and they're going to be pushing up the pricing on some of their legacy plans.

The news isn't official yet, but it's become clear that some of the oldest active plans in the company's repertoire are about to get a price hike. This is going to be an increase of anywhere between $2 to $5 per voice line on the plans that will be targeted. There's no definitive list of the affected plans yet, but it is certain that the Simple Choice and ONE plans from the company will be impacted. It also seems like the company's Magenta and Magenta Plus plans will be included, judging by some customers on that plan having gotten the text too.

We know more about this thanks to a combination of leaks from a T-Mobile employee on Reddit who posted an image from an internal slide, as well as an article from The Mobile Report.

According to the company, the reason for these price hikes is that “costs and inflation have risen over the past decade”, which is exactly what I'd expect the company to say. According to them, they still offer the lowest rates compared to the other competitors in the Big Three.

When Will This Price Hike Come Into Effect?

Customers have begun to receive text messages from the carrier informing them of a price increase, with an attached link. There seem to be two major sets of links being sent out: one informs customers of a $2 increase and the other mentions a $5 price hike. This price hike is going to come into effect starting with the June 5th billing cycle.

T-Mobile says that you shouldn't worry because all of your benefits on each plan are untouched and you supposedly save 20% compared to what you can get with AT&T or Verizon. Either way, it's still bound to displease a lot of people.
