An OTA update taking the Desire S up to Android 2.3.5 is apparently rolling out right now in stages. Users in the U.K. are currently reporting to have received this update while being on the device's stock ROM. With this new update comes Sense 3.0 as well. If you've gotten this update surprise on your device, hit us up down there in the comments and be sure to let us know where you're from.

HTC Desire S, just got update. Not only is the typing so insanely slow that I can type a whole row of text before it appears, but the interface of just about every feature is awful. I chose the Desire S over the Sensation because I preferred the interface of the Desire. Now with this update, I have the exact interface that I chose an older model to avoid.
Please, please let there be a way to uninstall this update.
I have the same problem, I phoned HTC Service Department, and the technican asked my to carry out a series of tasks to try and get the phone to power off, but to no avail. In the end he asked me to return it to the service department. He emailed me a Service Report Form and a Return Address label, for the phone to be collected the following day, estimated time of return approx 7 days. It should be due back on the 20th Sep.
i am a user of htc desire s ,so i read somwer tht one can upgrade frm the current version to v4.0Anyone knws hws dt done
Mine auto-power off by itself after firmware upgrade…sigh…
From South Africa here, mine just reboots randomly. Damn horrendous.
after updating I now can’t mms or connect to mobile internet but wi-fi fine. what do i do to fix it? it’s ridiculous this has happened! Derby, UK
I’m having this same issue! Can’t send picture messages cause they take forever sometimes a day, some of my messages even take a day and same with the WiFi issues. also no matter what I’m in but mostly internet my phone closes n goes back to the main desktop screen.
Found a solution, worked fine for me!
Apparently this is a known bug with the new firmware. In the All Settings>Security menu, untick the “use secure credentials” and then retick it. This should then hopefully fix the problem, although mine has returned a couple of times, so I’ve had to repeat the procedure.
I´m having the same problem as everyone else here, cant shut down och go into flightmode with my Desire s. Android 2.3.5 htc Sense version 3.0
Lewis
My software updated a few months ago
And since it did i cant restat my phone Nd its really bugging cos i want to know how to.anyone know?
Awful lock screen. Clearly created by someone who does not actually use the phone. Please can I have old lock screen back? If you have not updated I urge you not too
The new lock screen is excellent, it’s much better. So easy to access things direct from the lock screen. you don’t have to unlock it and then open the app. Also the ability to have the weather widget built into the lock screen is second to none. If you hate the new lock screen that much there are many others you could try from the app store/google play.
hi,
i have received android 2.3.5 update to my DHD 2 days before.now i am facing problems with you tube, android market.i cannot download any applications.now i am living in ghana.
please some one can help me please send an email to me.europrabhu.2011@gmail.com
Mobile data doesn’t work at all on my desire S, no problems before the upgrade. Is there a way of fixing this? Scotland
I have a HTC Desire S, I I have updated my software and now when I press the power button it locks the screen, that’s it!!! I can’t turn it of, I can’t sellect to go into flight mode using that button I can only lock the screen, even if I hold it down for 10 min. The battery life is reduced significantly and mobile network is poor, my data connection gets dropped all the time. The small photo of the last photo taken is bothering me and I can’t do a thing about it. Weather is better though. If I wanted the weather I’d watch the news or the weather channel thank you. I’ve used my whole month’s pay to buy a decent phone and it was good, until I updated the software. HTC and Android, please fix your problem…
Just updated Desire S. And some new functions and widgets are good. Weather is better than before. But I don’t like the new lock screen and especially don’t like the animation when it switches to the home page. Everything whirling around makes me feel sick. I don’t like the way the various home pages angle away either. This would be OK if I could switch these animations off via settings, but I can’t. Also, updating erased all my phone’s accumulated pop 3 emails. Camera now has small image of last picture/video on screen, and nothing will budge it. Would revert to previous version if I could.
Updated the software and my phone would be fine… If my mobile internet actually worked – never had problems with it before I updated :/ – Birmingham
Cannot turn phonw off without taking battery out! And cannot send MMS. Terrible update!
Lost data connection, only works on WiFi. London.
hmmmmm where do I start…? IT SUX!!!!
– Constant abnormal resets
– Drops calls
– Data network repeatedly drops out
– Cant turn the phone off without taking battery out
– Now EXTREMELY slow
– Battery life has dropped significantly
I really, really, really HATE this update, it’s rendered my phone near enough useless! and it looks like no one is doing a thing about it :(
Android 2.3.5
HTC Sense 3.0
Software 2.13.61.3
Oh good I’m not the only one with / that had this problem! I only just updated my phone (takes a while to get updates down under). I can deal with the new lock screen etc. But when my phone is randomly resetting and I’m not getting notification of missed calls that my friends can PROVE they made
it suck ass the camera has now go apreview of the last picture and you can,t get the widgets of the lock screen and the gallery has change to look like all the phones and the music has change as well.It look like iphone which i did not want thats why I choose this phone.
HTC Incredible S – India
Just got rhe update a few hours back, already lovin the new additions
Cannot MMS anymore! Scotland.
Just received my upgrade last week for my htc desire s on orange. Its great!
my father have the same smart phone i have ( HTC Desire HD ) and he got the sense update while i didn’t and it’s been 3 days now and i’m checking for the update manually and i got nothing but ( your phone software is up to date ) so can anyone tell me what’s wrong please ?!!!!
Won’t turn off, Scotland
london. cant answer phone calls…. constantly saying “you are on air plane mode” can not restart or turn off
Should be I can’t
HTC Desire HD. Ireland
I can answer phone call. Alarm clock doesn’t work, I’m late to work!
Have just updated and issues so far are as follows: cannot turn phone off without toggling ‘secure credentials’. Mms not working, just telling me I have a photo, but cannot d/l it. O2 data not working at all, no network showing, only phone calls.
I thought updates were meant to improve things, and I was led to believe they took so long to roll out on o2 because of their ‘extensive testing’ what a load of shit.
Desire s, O2.
It is shit, I cannot pick up and make a calls… How to downgrade!!!!!!!!!
I’m unable to connect & scan any device via bluetooth
The only Major problem i have is that Sense restarts after exiting certain Apps! Other than that seems to be ok! Desire HD, Ireland.
Cant turn off phone… Denmark
Just got the update on my Desire HD. Hopeless! Freezes and restarts again and again! Where have my contacts gone!? This is unbelievable! It should be a smooth overwrite and an improvement. Instead it’s wrecked my system! How do I roll-back or reinstall?
December 20th 2011 and still waiting for the update on my unbranded HTC Desire S. I’m not happy, The useless customer service department keep saying oh you’ll have it soon blah blah blah, they have been saying it’ll be soon for 4mths now.
mine has been updating since morning and still hasnt finished, i hope d update hasnt crashed d phone??? Incredible S Russia
HTC Wildfire S/Bulgaria
Got the update couple of days ago- Built-in Exchange mail client does not perform well any more, I cannot open any email message- Vibration feedback cannot be switched off
Serious disappointment..
HTC Desire. Terrible upgrade to 2.3.5 in UK. Slow. Too much animation. Car panel stopped working. Too many graphics. Txt mgs display now poor.
I agree. i’m annoyed that i put this update on ,my phone when there wass nothing wrong with the previous veresion of the software. mail by HTC looks crap now you can set the niumber of preview lines displayed but the all inbox version leaves the space unused so you can see a maximum of four messages in this veew. terrible. as poster ‘me’ says far too much animation even with it turned off on the phone. a very poor lock screen ( a ring pull? ffs) can’;t remove the four apps on the lock screen.
don’t update to 2.3.5
After about a month I finally worked out how to change the number of preview lines (am I one of the few people who found it incredibly annoying that the Sense 3.0 “upgrade” changed the default? Very few people seem to have posted about it.)
What I did to change the “all inboxes” preview was simply to change the preview lines setting account by account (to no preview lines, in my case). Then when I go to all accounts, it shows me my emails with no previews: I get about 8 emails on the screen, instead of 4 1/2.
uk, everything great but car panel has gone…
belgium desire HD 2 days later after the update my phone randomly reboots,, stays on for 1 min then reboots ,, very annoying and nothing helps :(
Same here, THE phone workshop, vut car panel is gone.
Like Mats G said, all you have to do to get the power button and airplane mode back is to go to “settings”, “security” and press “use secure credentials”.
tanx it worked very well
Well, I got the OTA 2.3.5 but, the HTC sense is still 2.1 -.-‘
and the phone feels slower
Denmark
I cannot turn off, restart nor airplane mode my phone!!!
I have the exact same problem. HTC Desire S. Norway.
I saw this workaround on another site: Enable Settings->Security->Use security credentials. Set a password, voila, top button restart menu works again. But only until reboot, which switches off security credentials…
Also HTC Desire S, Norway
EDIT: Airplane mode is also reachable from Settigns->Wireless and network. But yes, it’s cumbersome.
Guys I’ve just updated to sense 3.0 and don’t have any issues with the phone whatsoever… its butter smooth…..still like sense 2.1 though. India
Want back to 2.3.4 can’t turn off phone
England
italy …any tips how to roll back to previous version? do not like this much…
Czech Republic yesterday …any tips how to roll back to previous version? do not like this much…
Sweden
Just updated to 2.3.5 from Sri Lanka.
Pros:
Number of cool UI changes are there.
Cons:
* Feels like the phone is a bit slower now
* “Power off – Air Mode – Restart” button is not working now.
If someone can tell me how to get back to 2.3.4… I adore you.
Holland btw.
I am in India , will the update be rolling out soon
Im with orange in the uk and still have not got the update??
I got the update here in Greece today!

Any idea when this update will be heading to South Africa?
Thanks PanMan sorted thanks to your post. Liking the update though still getting used to it. Annoyed standalone car panel sat nav has disappeared but google maps will suffice I guess.
Re no Mobile internet just fixed it.
Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names (was blank when I went in there) -> Menu Button -> Reset to Default -> Select Correct PAYG or Monthly option
On O2 UK. Phone updated to 2.3.5 ^ sense 3. Loving the look but as per some other users mobile internet no longer working
I had the issue with “power off/flight mode/restart” missing and did a factory reset.
I still have a problem that the “use secure credentials” gets unticked with the result that the power button “menu” stops working. When I select “use secure credentials” again it reappears.
Couldn’t get and still can’t get mobile internet on my phone. have tried syncing and checking all settings, to no avail. Any ideas anyone?
England
i couldn’t get mobile data on my desire s after the update – all the apn settings had disappeared. i’ve sorted that but now i can’t use the bluetooth in my car. it’s paired but won’t connect. can anyone help?
That is why it is called a workaround not a fix…..
Updated Desire S yesterday and all of a sudden couldn’t answer calls when the phone was locked at the point the call came in. When I drag the answer icon to the middle of the ring I got the message ‘com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly’. it works as normal if the phone is unlocked when the call comes in.
After some investigation I thought the HTC sense update might be the issue and sure enough when I removed the HTC account from my accounts list the problem went away. Not exactly impressed that an update with such massive issues was released.
Same thing here, no power down menu – can get it back by doing the secure credentials thing but then on the next power down the menu has gone again. A hard reset or just wait for a fix???
Update: Power off doesn’t work after restart and you need to go through the whole use credentials thing again. Then it works until you restart ……etc … etc.
the power button trick worked! But have the same problem as George with the market, can’t update any apps… downloading does work (but it has to load for a long time before download starts)
Thanks guys did the trick. I’ll let you know if it does anything strange!
@dougster
i had the same problem with my desire s. i didn’t know the password.
settings -> security-> clear all credentials (wait until erasing)
set pasword
and then tick the box “use secure credentials” 1-2 times. The power off/on button will be ok
this really work., thanks.
Go to the last item in the (remove all credentials and set new password or something) first then enter a new password.
Tried the ‘use credentials’ trick above but just asks me to enter a password which I do not know, any other tips?
@Dave W,
Sounds like this is more of a problem than initially thought – what sort of time passes before the phone turns itself off? Mine has been running for 3 hours now withouth a problem (though a couple of app shortcuts randomly disappeared…
Spider Mean’s solution worked initially. But now, the phone is switching itself off. And after reboot, the power off menu is not working again. If I repeat the solution, the power off menu comes back but then after a while of non-use, the phone turns off again on it’s own. Frustrating.
Spider Mean’s workaround from above worked fine for me now:
Setting -> Security -> Use secure credentials.
Tick the box, long press the power button then go back and untick the secure credentials tickbox again and all works as it should
the shutdown button works with the trick suggested
Security>>User Secure Credentials (enable then disable)
It works
Thank youuuuuuuuuu
Me too. Thanks for the solution… a bit random?
I am in Singapore and still no update available for my Desire S.
Those who got the update: Is the SMS delay problem resolved with this ?
On my Desire S (and many others reported as well), if the Network is NOT GSM Only, then the incoming SMS would delay for like 20 minutes or even more.
Guys, let us know if the new update solved this issue or not.
Thanks !
Finally got the update this week. There is no problem as feared with my phone (I am able to restart / power down the phone as earlier).
Got the update on htc desire S a couple of days ago and it was great, but the handset broke and I got a new one yesterday, I have been searching for the update again but I can’t get it!
Does anyone know why or how I can get it?
Got the update on my desire S the other day in the UK and can’t update or download apps… Can switch off though.
Nice one spider-mean! Worked a treat. No hard reset for me.
Setting -> Security -> Use secure credentials (enable and then disable again).
Thanks for your reply. I found the diary! It was under the Multi-Calendar button. I was not synced to google calendars and by default it was showing my empty google calendar! The new OS 2.3.5 is very different and needs some getting used to. But everything works – I downloaded using wifi and everything installed OK. I will now uplaod my calendar, when I have found out how to do it! Also I think I need to backup all the stuff on my phone to my PC or Google? Not sure how but will look at the book. Graham R
@ Graham R
Do you have them synced with Google calendar?
My desire s got the update last night. Apart from having to relogin to Sense nothing seems to be wrong. I have a new unlocking “ring”, but of a gimmick I guess and I seem to have a new style message box. Seems all ok. I’m in London, UK.
@ Marcia – I have the HTC Desire S too and have been holding the power button for a couple of minutes with no success – loathe to go down the hard reset road, but might have to :o(
Just got update and lost all calendar entries. My life has just vanished. Any body help?
Hi, I found a workaround for fixing this without a complete factory reset.
Setting -> Security -> Enable the Use Safe Information (hop it is translated correctly from Danish menu language). Afterwards you can disable it again, and it still works.
For some reason someone on Google found out that this fixed the issue, even though there seems no relation to the powermenu.
Downloaded update this morning and have just tested and power off button still works with a long press. Still get same three options. HTC Desire S.
York, UK
Got the 2.3.5 update and sense 3.0 yesterday. On the whole, looks good, but still a bit buggy. Worst is the lack of power off/restart functionality from the now redundant power button! Hope this gets sorted soon.
Btw. I had to remove the battery and use the “volume down” and then “poweron” option.
A factory reset has helped for me. You’ll have to reinstall apps and resynch data, but at least it works again…Hopefully HTC does it better at the next release.
Sorry, Norfolk, UK
My Desire S updated 25/10/2011 with 2.3.5 and Sence 3.0, loving the look. But my wildfire S still sits on 2.3.3 and no update available.
Installed 2.3.5 update with HTC sense 3.0 today and have the same issue. Cannot turn off/start the damn phone again now. Sort it out please.
Well, HTC made a lot of nice updates to the 2.3.5, unfortunately they forgot to include the shutdown menu. Talked to HTC today and they know about the problem. They must have released this while the test team was on holiday. Yes, it is correct, you cannot shutdown the phone. So leave it at home if you’re going on a flight.
Got the update in pakistan :)
how did you get it?? just by checking the updates? cause I have a wildfire s but cant get the updates.
Hey, how does one go about getting the update. When I check on the phone it says there is no update available. Help pl0x. Really want the update.
Tom
Also received the OTA update to 2.3.5, however phone shutdown and market instalation of apps stopped functioning. Orange, Switzerland
Does you have a branded device ? My is Desire s is Orange CH branded, and i get no update !
Hi,
But HTC have officially declared that they wont release HTC sense 3.0 for desire S.. So whats the scene
Love the Explorer or Wildfire S
