The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is the lightest Flip Samsung has made, and I like that it finally closes flat with no gap. It's a phone you want to show off, so a case feels like a waste.
But it can't be ignored that the phone has glass on both the cover screen and the back, and it only has an IP48 rating. Dust can, and will, gather under the hinge as the years go by. You'll also open and close it everyday, and every fold is one more chance to drop it.
Get a case that covers the hinge. A $20 case costs less than a Samsung repair.
Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro MagFit cover
$34.99
You bought the Flip 8 in Mint or Pink for a high price. It's only fair you should see what you paid for instead of hiding it. Spigen's case, besides being transparent for that reason, uses anti-yellowing resin. It'll last longer than cheap clear cases, while offering Qi2 magnets for your MagSafe charger and car mount.
Samsung official Flipsuit case
$59.99
It's not everyday you get a customizable case for your phone. Samsung's official case comes with interchangeable cards you can slot into the back and change the theme on the cover screen, while also offering protection.
Spigen Blueberry Nano Pop MagFit cover
$26.99
The Nano Pop is soft silicone with little dots along the sides to keep it from sliding out of your hand when you flip it open. It still has magnets, and the Blueberry Navy looks irresistably good against every Flip 8 color.
Poetic Spartan Full-Body Rugged Shockproof case
$36.95
The Spartan covers your foldable's whole phone, including the hinge, and it comes with a tempered glass protector for the cover screen. Poetic rates it for 20-foot drops, and it has a built-in kickstand plus MagSafe compatibility.
Spigen Air Fit Pro MagFit case
$29.99
Want your Flip 8 to remain close to thin as it is? The Air Fit Pro can guarantee that with it's ultra slim design. It uses Air Cushion Technology to protect the phone's corners too, and is Qi2 certified for magnetic charging.
OtterBox Thin Flex magnetic case
$64.87
The OtterBox Thin Flex is an admittedly pricey choice, and the quality shows why. It's a two-piece case, and the halves line up so evenly that the Flip 8 looks symmetrical whether it's open or shut. The transparent shell and clean lines make the phone look almost futuristic. OtterBox has tested it to military drop standards, and the built-in magnets work with MagSafe chargers and accessories.
A case is only half your foldable's care plan
The Flip 8 ships with a protective film on the inner screen, and you should leave it on. It's part of the display, and peeling it off can damage the screen underneath.
Yet, the film stops about 1 millimeter short of the frame, so dust collects along that edge. Try to wipe it out gently with a dry microfiber cloth regularly, and keep your nails or any sharp objects off the inner screen.
The foldable's IP48 rating also means fine dust and sand can reach deeper into the hinge. Keep the phone out of sandy pockets and beach bags, and close it before you set it down.
