Samsung's stable One UI 9 update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 in the U.S. It's the official Android 17 update, and it's reaching both carrier-locked and unlocked models. This is happening about a week after the release started in the company's home country, South Korea.
It's a 4GB update with a 90-second wait time
Users with a Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 7, or Galaxy Z Flip 7 phone in the U.S. are now receiving One UI 9. On the AT&T network, the Galaxy S25 Plus update lists One UI 9.0 on Android 17 with firmware version S936USQUCDZIF.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra update carries version S938USQUCDZIF, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 using Verizon's network shows the update as Software update 16.1, with support for Android 17 and One UI 9.0. The versions come with the September 5, 2026 security patch and are close to 4GB.
Verizon warns that you won't be able to make or receive calls for about 90 seconds during installation and recommends charging your phone fully first. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Your phone needs to restart into a separate update mode that writes the new software onto the phone's system storage. The same process replaces the modem's firmware, which is the software that controls your cellular radio.
While the modem is being rewritten, it's switched off, so the phone can't connect to the network to send or receive calls. Your phone will be fine, as long as you don't interrupt the process. Otherwise, the update may corrupt and leave the phone stuck or unable to boot.
To install the update, go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If you don't see it, it hasn't reached your carrier or model yet. Check again in a few days.
Here's when your phone will get One UI 9
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8 were announced at Unpacked on July 22, 2026, and One UI 9 shipped on them out of the box. The first confirmed update rollout to existing phones started on September 16, with the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra.
The update introduces new features like My FanCam, which tracks a person you select in a recorded video and keeps them centered as the scene moves. Samsung's Now Brief gets editable cards, so you choose what appears in your daily summary across health, weather, and video.
Warranty and Care has moved device support into Settings, where you can now check warranty coverage, run diagnostics, see repair estimates, and book a service appointment.
Also, Nudge offers suggestions in more places, like pulling up reservation details while you're making plans in a text thread. These are but a few of the features, although not all will reach every Galaxy phone because of hardware constraints.
Samsung intends to bring One UI 9 to more of its older phones over the coming months. The Galaxy S24 series might be next, alongside the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Flip 6 in October. S24 owners are currently getting a September 2026 security patch.
A-series phones will wait longer, but the eligible list includes the Galaxy A57, A56, A55, A54, A37, A36, A35, A34, A26, A25, A17, A16, and A07. According to a Samsung Members community post, beta testing is underway for the A54 and A16, but their stable update isn't expected until early 2027.
