Samsung's Fold 8 Wide, also known as the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, is now the Fold 8. The foldable that would've launched as the Fold 8 is now the Fold 8 Ultra. If you had to read that twice, you're not alone.
With iPhone Ultra leaks and rumors increasing, the Korean smartphone maker reportedly wants its own wider-folding device to feel like the standard option rather than a secondary one.
Regardless, the new Fold 8 Ultra has a bigger battery than the Fold 8 with a 200mAh difference. It also has a triple-camera setup with a telephoto lens, while the Fold 8 has two cameras. Here's what else to expect.
We're getting two Z Fold 8s this July
According to a Weibo post by leaker ilce Universe, the popular smartphone maker has changed the naming scheme for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup. What you previously knew as the Fold 8 Wide, the larger, wider-screened and unreleased variant of the originally launched Galaxy Z Fold 8, will now be known as the Fold 8.

Meanwhile, the foldable phone that was the standard Fold 8 is now being rebranded as the Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung typically launches its foldable lineup as a single device per cycle. That is, one Galaxy Z Fold and one Galaxy Z Flip, each year. Two horizontally folding devices this July is a major departure from the norm.
The obvious problem is that the Fold 8 Ultra isn't a new device tier that Samsung built from the ground up to justify the Ultra name. It's still the base Fold 8, renamed, which is just the same as taking the Pixel 9 and calling it the Pixel 9 Ultra.
The rumored specifications for the Fold 8 Ultra include a 5,000mAh battery and a triple-camera setup with a telephoto lens. It's the more capable phone of the two as the standard Fold 8 debuts with a 4,800mAh battery and only two cameras with no telephoto lens.
Both devices are expected to feature a new selfie camera on the external display that is smaller than previous Fold models. There's not much to lose here, frankly.

Renaming or not, the leaked specs have been underwhelming. Samsung has not significantly improved its phone designs. Plus, S Pen support isn't coming back, despite earlier reports suggesting there was a new version that didn't require a digitizer.
Samsung's next foldables will attend Unpacked Summer 2026
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and Z Flip 8 will be announced at Galaxy Unpacked in July, possibly on the 22nd. Pricing is unknown, but it should match the Z Flip 7's $1,099 price tag. However, a price hike isn't unimaginable.
The Z Flip 8 is expected to come with a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display running at 2520 x 1080 resolution with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The cover display is a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

It'll use Samsung's Exynos 2600 chip, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The main camera could be 50MP, with a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP front camera. Battery capacity is 4,300mAh with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging support.
