Good news for students who usually have to watch every penny: Google's entry-level Gemini AI Plus plan has been made free for 12 months for eligible students, according to the latest announcement. If paid AI tools have always felt out of reach, this offer could be a welcome relief.

Google Expands Free AI Access for Students

About a year ago, Google launched a special deal giving students a year of free access to its AI Pro plan. Inspired by the popularity of that move, Google announced a new round of student offers for 2026.

What's Available and Where

This time, there are two main offers, depending on your location. US students could receive 12 months of free access to Google AI Pro. Students in 140 other countries were offered a similar deal, but for the Gemini AI Plus plan—a slightly less feature-rich, but still notable subscription.

What Does Gemini AI Plus Include?

Gemini AI Plus is Google's basic AI subscription, which typically costs around €4.99 per month (about $5.40 at recent exchange rates), though prices can vary. The plan grants users expanded access to Gemini 3.1 Pro and Deep Research, along with more advanced tools for generating images, music, and videos within Gemini and Google Search. The AI Pro plan, offered previously to US students, also comes with 400GB of cloud storage.

Interested students can apply by visiting the designated website, verifying their student status, and then signing up—even if they had already used the previous 2025 free offer. However, this promotion was available only in 2026, ending on December 31. Any plans to claim the offer should have been made before year's end.
