Acer is expanding its education lineup with the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 and Acer Chromebook 311, marking the first commercial devices to launch with MediaTek’s new Kompanio 540 processor. Aimed squarely at K-12 classrooms and 1:1 learning programs, the new models focus on efficiency, durability, and long battery life—without pushing costs out of reach for schools.

At the heart of both devices is the MediaTek Kompanio 540, a brand-new chipset designed specifically for ChromeOS workloads. Acer says the Kompanio 540 delivers smooth performance for everyday learning tasks, including STEM applications and Minecraft: Education Edition, while enabling up to 15 hours of battery life thanks to its power-efficient, fanless design.

Two designs, one platform

Acer is offering the Kompanio 540 across two familiar form factors. The Acer Chromebook Spin 311 features a 360-degree hinge that lets students switch between laptop, tent, stand, and tablet modes for reading, sketching, and note-taking. Meanwhile, the Acer Chromebook 311 sticks to a traditional clamshell design that’s compact and lightweight for younger learners.

Both models use an 11.6-inch HD (1366×768) IPS display, with the Spin 311 offering an optional Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass 2 finish. Acer is also offering TÜV Rheinland-certified low blue-light display options to reduce eye strain during long school days.

Built for classrooms (and backpacks)

Durability is a clear priority. The new Chromebooks meet MIL-STD-810H testing standards and are designed to survive drops of up to 122 cm. Acer has added reinforced I/O ports, an internal honeycomb structure, and shock-absorbing bumpers to cope with daily classroom abuse. Spill resistance is handled by a drainage system that protects against spills of up to 330 ml, while rubberised feet make the devices easier for younger students to carry.

Connectivity is also future-proofed, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 support, plus Full HD webcams and dual microphones for remote learning and collaborative projects. A dedicated Quick Insert key provides one-touch access to tools and menus, helping students work faster and more intuitively.

Lower costs, easier repairs

Acer is leaning hard into total cost of ownership. Both Chromebooks use modular, serviceable components, including a keyboard that can be replaced by removing just two screws and a modular USB-C port designed for quick repairs. That approach should reduce downtime and maintenance costs for IT teams managing large fleets.

Sustainability also plays a role through PCR plastics, eco-friendly packaging, and certifications such as EPEAT, Energy Star, and TCO.

Price and availability

The Acer Chromebook 311 (C725) is set to launch in March 2026, starting at $499.99 in North America and €329 in EMEA, with availability also planned for Australia. Schools can purchase both models with Chrome Education Upgrade, enabling zero-touch enrollment and simplified fleet management.

Verdict

By being first out of the gate with MediaTek’s Kompanio 540, Acer is setting the tone for the next wave of education Chromebooks—quiet, efficient, and built to survive real classrooms.
