Official Renders Show Samsung Z Flip 7, Fold 7 in All Their Glory

Samsung has two Unpacked events every year. The first one is at the start of the year, where they unveil the Galaxy S flagships that will dominate until the next series comes out. The second one is in the summer months, and brings the Galaxy Z foldables as well as the company's wearables and audio products.

Next month, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 will arrive, and this is the first time I'm excited for Samsung's foldables. Why? Well, the answer is simple. It's because the South Korean OEM's previous foldable releases have been lackluster, but this seems like the first it is ready to take very serious, and these leaked renders lend credence to that.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Will Ditch the Folder-Style Display for a Full Cover Screen

There's no surprise that clamshell foldables are popular; they bring back that unique appeal and nostalgia that only flip phones possessed before them. The market might have quite a few option, but for most people, internationally, the Motorola Razr and the Galaxy Z Flip are the only real options. Plus, the latter is certainly the face of that foldable market segment.

For the most part, I haven't had many issues with the Z Flip foldables, but in recent years, Motorola has done a good job blowing Samsung out of the water. You shouldn't be the face of the form factor if you can't provide the best value to customers. This year, though, it seems that Samsung will be a lot more competitive, especially in the design category.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has had its first official renders leaked by Android Headlines, and it looks really good, and a lot better than the Z Flip 6 did. That's mostly thanks to Samsung finally ditching the folder-style cover display, which was cool for a bit but now looks outdated. This year, the cover display will cover the entire lid of the device, according to renders, and I'm all for that.

Will Samsung make the cover display compatible with any app on your phone? That's yet to be seen, but if so, that'll be huge. The phone is also thinner than last year, which no one is going to be complaining about. We also get confirmation on two colorways, which are:

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Seems Thin Enough to Dance With the Competition

While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is cool and all, a lot of people will be a lot more excited about the Galaxy Z Fold 7, since that's the device for power users. The good thing is that Android Headlines also got its hands on official renders for the Z Fold 7.

Samsung's next book-style foldable will be notably thinner than the current Z Fold 6, which is music to my ears. While foldables from Chinese OEMs sit under 10mm thickness when folded, Samsung's Z Fold 6 was still all the way up at 12.1mm. The renders show that won't be the case this year, with a sub-10mm thickness on its way, though the exact numbers aren't clear. The under-display camera on the inner screen also gets axed.

There are a few things that have been heavily rumored regarding the foldable, expected on July 9th, and while you should take everything with a pinch of salt, things seem a little promising.
