It's all-out war in the foldable space this year, and I'm loving how messy things are getting. Three foldables are expected to launch in the next few weeks: the Vivo X Fold 5, the Honor Magic V5, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. At different times, we've heard that each one will be the thinnest foldable in the world.
To remove any confusion, Honor has reiterated that the Magic V5, the sequel to its very excellent Magic V3, will be the thinnest foldable in the world when it releases. On top of that, the company has made it clear that its upcoming foldable is fully intended to fight against the Z Fold 7. Oh, and the Magic V5 finally has a launch date too. A lot's going on.
The Honor Magic V5 Will Be the Thinnest Foldable in the World, Restoring Honor's Honor

I'm not ready for a foldable yet, but it is almost impossible to say that their segment of the market isn't tons of fun. Not only are devices getting more powerful year after year, but the dimensions are improving at a pretty ridiculous pace. Right now, the thinnest foldable in the world is the Oppo Find N5, and it measures at only 8.9mm when folded. For complete reference, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is 8.9mm thick, too.
| Foldable | Thickness (Folded) |
| Oppo Find N5 | 8.9mm |
| Honor Magic V3 | 9.2/9.3mm |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 | 12.1mm |
| Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold | 10.5mm |
| Vivo X Fold 3 | 10.2mm |
However, Honor says that 8.9mm will soon be a thing of the past in the foldable world. With the Honor Magic V5, the Chinese OEM expects to reclaim the crown its Magic V3 lost to the Oppo Find N5. While there's not a good enough idea of the exact dimensions, Honor says it will be the thinnest foldable in the world when it launches. Personally, I'd love to see something sub-8.5mm, but only time will tell.
Honor Will Launch Its Foldable in China on July 2nd

The best part of this entire situation is that it doesn't seem like we're going to need to wait too long to actually get confirmation on the Magic V5. Honor has confirmed that its upcoming device will be made official next month, on July 2nd, to be precise.
- June 25th: Vivo X Fold 5
- July 2nd: Honor Magic V5
- July 9th: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
The V5's launch is less than two weeks away, and by the time that date arrives, the Vivo X Fold 5 will have launched in China. It'll be fun to compare them and see which device comes out on top. And only a week after the Magic V5 materializes, we expect the Z Fold 7. It's about to be a busy few weeks in the foldable world.
Honor's Magic V5 Is Designed to Go Head-to-Head With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

The Honor Magic V5 was a marvel of modern smartphone engineering, and there's not a single reason to doubt that Honor will pull another rabbit out of its hat with its next bit of Magic.
In fact, the company is so confident that it name-drops a certain South Korean manufacturer, saying that its upcoming foldable is “designed to directly challenge the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.” That wouldn't have been much of a boast last year, but it seems Samsung is ready to take things seriously this year, so I'm interested in seeing how things play out.
