At this point, everyone knows that Samsung fluffed its Android 15 release. Thankfully, several months after, most of its major past flagships have received the update (including mine, an S22 Ultra). Now that the One UI 7 situation is mostly resolved, Samsung needs to turn its attention to Android 16, which is expected to launch next month.
The company can't afford to mess things up the way it did with the current release, and the good thing is that it knows that. The company has just given us a pretty good idea of when we can expect One UI 8, and it is a pretty reasonable time frame. However, what matters the most is whether the OEM will actually deliver in that regard.
Samsung's Android 16 Skin Should Arrive Before the End of August
Google I/O is coming, and in preparation for that, the official Android YouTube channel has been releasing special “The Android Show: I/O Edition” videos. Yesterday, the same source gave us pricing info on the Nothing Phone 3. Today, it's a different flavor, but it is still a piece of info that we phone enthusiasts are excited about. In this case, Samsung's VP and Head of Smartphone Planning has delivered some important info about One UI 8.
The man himself, Minseok Kang, made it clear in the YouTube video that “this summer, the all-new Android 16 will be coming to Samsung devices”. That's not the kind of sentence that needs anyone to read between the lines. Android 16 is coming out in the first summer, and we expect it to begin rolling out to the S25 series and older flagships before the end of August.

That potential gap between when Android 16 releases and when Samsung phones start to get it is more like what we're used to, and no one will complain if it follows that rough schedule. Considering that One UI 8 is basically meant to be a full touch-up and refinements on One UI 7, as opposed to a tragic redesign, it makes it even more likely that Samsung will stick to that timeline.
The Beta for Samsung's One UI 8 Is Expected to Arrive on the Scene This Month
To show that Samsung is serious about how it plans to handle things this time around, there has already been a report that Samsung's beta for One UI 8 should commence on selected devices before the end of this month.
SamMobile reported that a limited beta release is expected by the “third week of this month,” and we're technically already in the third week, so we'll keep our eyes open. They say that a wider rollout of the beta will take place next month, putting Samsung on track for a stable release in the summer months. Devices that we can expect to be eligible for the release at some point include:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 series, including the newly-released S25 Edge
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip/Fold 6
- Samsung Galaxy S24 series
- Samsung Galaxy A56
