Sustainability is not a buzzword, but it has become an integral part of any business that wants to be more eco-friendly and make decisions while also considering the impact on the world. Now, more companies are trying to be more sustainable and adopt the best initiatives in all sectors. Sustainable practices are even more important nowadays when the world is dealing with the negative impacts that people and businesses have made on the planet. Plus, consumers are looking to buy from sustainable companies, so adopting eco-friendly practices has become necessary for a company's survival.

Speaking of companies that are trying to become greener and adopt eco-friendly practices, we have the best example of this, which is Samsung Electronics. Samsung has tried to be sustainable for many years already, and it is willing to do the same in the present and future. Samsung is a great example of a corporation that is trying to make good for the world in many areas, such as sustainable supply chains, environment, social contribution, or product responsibility.

Samsung is not a small brand, so taking the best measures towards the environment can prove an even better idea, as other businesses can take the example from this huge name. In this way, companies can contribute even more to fight environmental issues like resource depletion or climate change. This is why Samsung Electronics should receive a round of applause for all its sustainable initiatives, which we will explore in this article.

Samsung and its green approach: From 1992 to present moments

1992

In 1992, Samsung Electronics marked a colossal momentum for its green approach with the Environmental Declaration. The reason for considering greener practices was to take an active lead in environmental responsibilities and help the entire world become more sustainable. Samsung has understood that we are all responsible for protecting the planet where we live and not causing any more harm. With this start, Samsung has led the way to a more sustainable future, where being more eco-friendly is not something nice to have but a necessity that all businesses must consider.

1998

1998 was also an important year in Samsung's mission to adopt more sustainable practices. During that year, Samsung also introduced its own recycling centers to reduce e-waste. This has been a pioneering project that has greatly made the other see a good example of an efficient use of waste products. Now, a lot of businesses have integrated recycling into their operations, which is always good to hear. Businesses nowadays have everything at hand to start recycling. For example, they can invest in a baler from Mil-tek that can help them handle their waste more efficiently, which will later be taken to recycling centers.

2004 and 2005

In 2004, Samsung took its sustainable initiatives to a new level as it started to develop products with sustainability in mind. In that year, Samsung introduced the Eco-Design Process, where Samsung prioritized sustainability from the beginning to the end of the product development cycle. This program was focused on emergency efficiency, reducing the impact on the environment of a product, and resourcing it efficiently. 2005 also marked an important year for Samsung when this company launched its Environmental Analysis Lab. The purpose of this project was to find a system that could track if there are hazardous substances present in the development of a product.

Because of the initiatives taken in 2004 and 2005, Samsung was able to create more eco-friendly products that could address many issues. For example, in 2016, Samsung launched the Quantum Dot TV, which was the first product of this type that didn't use cadmium, a harmful material both to the environment and the human body. In this way, Samsung has gained an even bigger advantage as a leader in sustainability and innovation.

The effects of becoming more sustainable in numbers

Kyoto Protocol highlighted back in 2005 that it has become essential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, and Samsung has taken this attempt in literal terms and accelerated its efforts to reduce its emissions and become more eco-friendly. Besides the practices mentioned above, Samsung has announced all the visions it has to become greener and respond better to all these regulations, which are created especially to lead the way for a better tomorrow.

As we can see from the numbers, Samsung has made progress from 2009 to 2018. During all these years, Samsung has managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an impressive 243.1 million tons. As Samsung has highlighted, it is important to embrace a circular economy system, and because this company is a global brand, customers from 54 countries have considered this initiative. With this, Samsung managed to collect approximately 3.55 million tons from take-back programs.

Samsung is one of the most popular brands worldwide, and it has over 200 businesses spread out in more than 70 countries. This is why Samsung wishes to create more eco-friendly products and make the establishment of all its businesses more efficient. To achieve this, Samsung has set the ultimate goal of making all the establishments in China, Europe, and the U.S. use 100% renewable energy. Samsung also wants to integrate geothermal and solar power facilities in Korea.

Wrapping up

The world is dealing with the negative consequences that our practices have had on the earth. This is why we must all do what it takes to become greener and protect the planet on which we live, both for ourselves and future generations. And for this, we need all of you to contribute. Luckily, many names inspire us, and Samsung is one of them. Samsung didn't only say it started to become greener in responding to consumer demands but also because it truly understood the negative impact we all had on the world.

With all the practices mentioned above, Samsung has indeed become one of the top companies that have adopted eco-friendly means. In the future, Samsung will surely continue on its path to becoming more sustainable, and we can't wait to see how it plans to do that.
