Some of you who have heard of xda right now are probably thinking “why is an Android hacking site in Android 101?” Well, this is the most important site there is for Android users. In fact, if you don't think there's any benefit to visiting this site at least once a day then you're just being silly. Here's why.

A little background info for those of you who aren't sure what I'm talking about. xda-developers is a site for Android and Windows Phone modders. The xda forums are known around the world (seriously) for what they produce. I'm sure you met that one kid who was a tech genius who seemed to be able to do magical things with every computer he touched. Well, imagine thousands of that guy developing for your phone. The possibilities are, quite literally, endless. The developers at xda are almost universally considered to be ahead of the developers at the phone companies (I'm looking at you in particular Samsung). These guys know their stuff.

I couldn't understand him in class, how am I supposed to understand thousands of him?

Whether you're a completely green Android user or a seasoned veteran, xda has something for you. I personally had no knowledge of any sort of Android, coding, or computery stuff when I first got my Evo. But after spending a month learning on xda I'm a few steps away from being able to develop something myself. Even if you're not interested in developing for Android, the apps and tricks you can pick up for YOUR phone (they have a section just for the phone you got) that you won't get anywhere else. Want to get certain Android Market Apps for free? A lot of the time devs release them for free on xda as a way of saying thanks to the community. Have a question about why your phone is doing/not doing something? If you can ask a question on xda about your phone that no one can answer I will pay you an undisclosed amount of money. I have never had a question that wasn't answered. Want to root your phone? They'll walk you through it.

Think of a bunch of Android enthusiasts getting together to better the community. We here at TalkAndroid can not emphasize how important these developers are to the Android world and how much better your Android experience will be once you get into their forums. xda really just is that awesome. There's a reason a lot of our news and cool app articles come from xda. We have no sort of deal with them, only a huge appreciation for what they do. If you don't have an account go make one! What are you waiting for?

  1. Rico84 on xda. Proud member since 2008 when I was still using a windows mobile device. Loved it then. Love it now.

  2. After buying my g1 I pretty much spent every free minute cruising the forums at xda, the amount of info there is staggering, I went from knowing nothing about computers and phones to being just short of a I.t. professional. I love xda and all that the members have. Done

  3. I don’t have words for how much I <3 xda. Those guys rock my world. Thanks for the article Andrew.

  4. The XDA developers site (and app) is awesome! I use it daily to further tweak my Samsung Epic 4G. The people there are cool and willing to help. Don’t forget to search the forums before asking a question that more than likely has already been asked. (Screen name: eao1991)
