The Martial Sage is one of the easiest classes to play in Legend of Mushroom, particularly due to their exclusive shield and healing effects.
Still, you can easily mismanage your Martial Sage build if you don't understand their kit entirely. So, let's check out how to make your Shroomie truly unstoppable!
Best Martial Sage Builds

In Legend of Mushroom, we've covered all the best builds for each class, including the Martial Sage. As such, we believe this is the best setup we recommend you follow:
Counter-Attacking Build

The Martial Sage is a Counter specialist, hitting the enemies most after absorbing their most punishing attacks. To this end, it's clear what their most important stats to build on are:
Stats

| Stat | Description |
|---|---|
| Defense | Reduces the amount of incoming damage taken. |
| Counter | Chance to counter an attack after being hit. |
| Damage Resistance | Reduces all types of incoming damage taken. |
Ideally, all these stats should have the highest values you can get for them, to survive the most dangerous Bosses and PvP players while punishing them with your own retaliation strikes.
Skills

| Skill | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
Dragonic Resonance | Inflicts more than 3000% initial damage, and then another equivalent to 2% of the enemy's max HP after a 0.5-second delay. Deals extra damage equal to 1% of the target's max HP for every 10% Damage Resistance. Cooldown: 15 seconds |
Hundred Slashes | Deals upwards of 4000% damage before gaining 20% Basic Attack Damage Resistance and 0.5% Attack Bonus based on the current HP (5-second duration). Cooldown: 19 seconds |
Blade Pierce | Deals more than 4000% damage before bleeding the target by 1.5% of their max HP per second (5-second duration). Cooldown: 19 seconds |
Heroic Descent | Summons a Hero Spiric (3 Attack Speed) to attack enemies, dealing 148% Basic Attack damage (can't be targeted and lasts 10 seconds). Cooldown: 19 seconds |
Easy Breezy | Deals more than 1000% area-of-effect (AoE) damage to foes before reducing their Attack by 20% (lasts 5 seconds). Cooldown: 15 seconds |
Despite being a tank, the Martial Sage's best Skills are among the most powerful in the game, each being the Dragonic Resonance and Hundred Slashes. These can only be unlocked through time-limited events, but you need them to become the ultimate champion.
Besides that, thanks to the Martial Sage's prolonged survivability, Blade Pierce and Heroic Descent help provide passive damage support to dwindle enemies' HP.
Pals

| Pal | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
![]() Electric Pup | Increases Counter Damage by 60%, restoring 1% lost HP afterward. |
Rainbow Guardian | Increases Counter by 10% and Counter Damage by 100%. |
![]() Angel Deer | Increases Damage Resistance by 15%. |
![]() Kongfu Master | Increases HP Regeneration by 40%. |
Warlord Hydrosprite | Increases Active Skills' Energy Regeneration by 25%. |
Understanding the Martial Sage's kit, Pals that improve your Counter, Defense, and HP are necessary for you to overcome your foes with minimal hassle.
Relics

| Relic | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
![]() Ironclad Mask | Increases Counter by 10%. |
![]() Thundercaller Kite | Summons lighting dealing upwards of 200% damage after using Active Skills. |

![]() Stellar Statue | The duration of Hundred Slashes, Worldly Snare, and Star Array is increased by 50%. |
![]() Abyss Necklace | Increases the damage of Dragonic Resonance, Windborne Arrow, and Crimson Moonfall by 30%. |
In terms of Relics, you'd want to get those that complement the Skills and Pals currently chosen, such as the Metamorphic Crystal (for the Electric Pup).
Otherwise, anything that adds to your tankiness, like the Stonewrit Tome (increased Resistances), should be prioritized.
Souls

| Soul | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
Immortal Spirit | Global HP + HP Regeneration Bonus |
Forgiving Horns | Global Defense + Boss Damage Resistance |
Bloodstained Blade | Global Attack + Healing Rate + |
Guardian Star | Critical Resistance + Pal Critical Rate + Pal Critical Damage + |
Excellent Companion | Counter Damage + Pal Damage + |
Counter Damage | Counter Damage + |
Defense | Defense + |
HP | HP + |
Souls are a long-term investment for your character but very hard to get. Still, don't give up on your RNG rolls; try to get as many of these as possible.
Prayer Statue

| Stat Bonus |
|---|
| Global HP |
| Global Defense |
| Critical Resistance |
| Etc. |
The Prayer Statue's buffs are another luck-based mechanic in Legend of Mushroom, and we firmly believe we haven't seen all of its possible stat bonuses yet.
However, based on what we've gotten throughout our playthrough, the above stats should be focused on for your Martial Sage. Read our Prayer Statue guide below to learn more about it.
Tanky Guardian Build
If your summons hasn't been favorable, you can also opt for a Martial Sage build focusing on loads of HP and Defenses.

Stats
| Stat | Description |
|---|---|
| Defense | Reduces the amount of incoming damage taken. |
| Counter | Chance to counter an attack after being hit. |
| Damage Resistance | Reduces all types of incoming damage taken. |
| HP | Your character's total life points/ value. |
For this build, getting boons to your Shroomie's HP will ensure even more longevity in battle, outlasting your foes who can't make seem to bring you down.

Blitz Assault | Deals upwards of 5000% damage before applying a 3-second damage immunity (invulnerability). Cooldown: 24 seconds |
Easy Breezy | Deals more than 1000% area-of-effect (AoE) damage to foes before reducing their Attack by 20% (lasts 5 seconds). Cooldown: 15 seconds |
Nature's Renewal | Inflicts more than 2000% damage to an enemy before recovering 30% of your max HP within 5 seconds. Cooldown: 24 seconds |
Dragonic Resonance and Hundred Slashes remain your strongest Skills, but the others have been replaced by more easily accessible yet important ones, notably Easy Breezy and Nature's Renewal.
Pals

| Pal | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
![]() Wealthy Lizard | Increases Pals' damage by 40%. |
![]() Electric Pup | Increases Counter Damage by 60%, restoring 1% lost HP afterward. |
![]() Hipster Tortoise | If HP is below 50%, gains a shield equal to 30% of max HP. Cooldown: 60 seconds |
Rainbow Guardian | Increases Counter by 10% and Counter Damage by 100%. |
![]() Kongfu Master | Increases HP Regeneration by 40%. |
In this new lineup, a few of the game's best Pals make it into this new setup.
The Hipster Tortoise and Kongfu Master make you significantly unbreakable, paving the way for the Wealthy Lizard to add damage support via your Pals.
Relics

| Relic | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
![]() Ironclad Mask | Increases Counter by 10%. |
![]() Dragonweave Circlet | 20% chance for Dragon, Turtle, and Lizard Pals' Basic Attacks to deal extra damage equal to 0.5% of their max HP. |
![]() Metamorphic Crystal | Increases the Attack Speed of Dog, Fox, and Octopus Pals by 5.56%. |
![]() Healing Book | When fighting Bosses, recover 10% of lost HP every 5 seconds. |
With this new build, a few Relics need to be replaced. As such, you should have the Dragonweave Circlet and Healing Book on hand to facilitate the effectiveness of your latest tanky Martial Sage build.
Souls

| Soul | Effect(s) |
|---|---|
Immortal Spirit | Global HP + HP Regeneration Bonus |
Forgiving Horns | Global Defense + Boss Damage Resistance |
Bloodstained Blade | Global Attack + Healing Rate + |
Guardian Star | Critical Resistance + Pal Critical Rate + Pal Critical Damage + |
Excellent Companion | Counter Damage + Pal Damage + |
Wildfire Piercer | Basic Attack Damage + Skill Damage + |
Counter Damage | Counter Damage + |
Life Renewal | HP Regeneration Bonus |
Many of the same Souls remain for this one, but Wildfire Piercer and the Life Renewal buff are now included instead, each adding more attacking threat and healing effects respectively.
Prayer Statue

| Stat Bonus |
|---|
| Global HP |
| Global Defense |
| Critical Resistance |
| Etc. |
To make your Martial Sage stronger, the Prayer Statue needs to have the relevant stat effects available, primarily those impacting HP, Defense, and Counter (haven't gotten it in our playthrough, but we believe it's available in the game's RNG pool).
Again, although the possible stat outcomes are randomized, you can still lock those you want once you get them.
Conclusion

Joy Nice Games‘s Legend of Mushroom is more than just another simple idle auto-battler. Many in-game systems were developed with care, leading to in-depth character builds like the Martial Sage's here.
