Your Peacock Subscription Has Gotten More Expensive, Again

It hasn’t been up to a year since the last time that Peacock raised its price, but if you’re planning to watch the Olympics, you’ll have to pay the latest price increase.

There are so many streaming services out there these days and it is hard to keep track of them. It's hard to say that one is better than the other anyway, so if Peacock is your service of choice, then Godspeed to you. It's the best choice if you're ready to sit down with snacks all day for the Olympics.

The problem is that Peacock has brought on yet another increase to the prices for its subscriptions, which isn't bound to go down well with many people, especially right ahead of such a big sporting event.

Compared To Last Year, Peacock's Subscriptions Have Nearly Doubled In Price

Peacock is proudly letting us all know that they're going to be showing every single event and sport at the 2024 Summer Olympics, starting on July 26th. That includes every single medal event; all 329 of them. The Olympics only happen once every four years, so a lot of people will be excited to tune in.

The thing is, if you're going to be getting Peacock solely to watch the Games, then Peacock has decided to do a quick money grab and increase its price to $8 per month for the ad-supported tier and $14 per month for the ad-free tier, starting from July 18th for new subscribers. This date is meant to target those who likely won't stick by the platform after the Olympics are over — even less so considering the new prices.

If you're an existing customer, you're safe from the price increase for at least a month extra, as the new prices will only kick in for you on August 17th, but they're certainly around to stay and the Olympics likely made for a perfect excuse for yet another price jump.

Just so you know, at the start of last year, Peacock's subscriptions cost $5 and $10 per month for the ad-supported and ad-free tiers respectively. In the summer of 2023, the prices went up to $6 on the ad-supported tier, and now, this summer, it's gone up another $2. Is this going to be the endpoint for Peacock, or do they still have another price increase in store for next summer? It remains to be seen.

As Annoying As It Is, Peacock Isn't The Only Guilty Party When It Comes To Price Increases

Before you spit on Peacock and forsake their existence, you need to understand that as annoying as a price increase before the Olympic Games is, they are not the only streaming service increasing price. Pretty much everyone involved in this business is.

In late 2023, particularly in October, Disney+, Apple TV+, and Hulu, all increased their prices; interestingly enough, all by $3 on their ad-free plans. Netflix‘s standard ad-free plan has stuck at the same price since the start of 2022, which is great since it is the most popular option.

So, even with yet another price increase for Peacock users, it is important for them to realize they're not experiencing an isolated incident, and a few other companies are probably going to follow suit before the end of the year.
