The Pixel 8a is about two weeks away from being unveiled to the world and we're excited to see what Google has up its sleeve for the next iteration of its budget smartphone line. It's not like there's much to be left to the imagination considering we've heard a lot of rumors and seen a lot of leaks regarding the smartphone.
In fact, one of the rumors we've heard was related to the price and claimed that the Pixel 8a would get a price bump over its predecessor. Fortunately, we now know the official price of the phone and it's good news all around.
The Pixel 8a Is Going To Stay At The Same Price As The Pixel 7a
If you value a very solid software experience and want that paired with excellent cameras, there's no device line that is as much of a no-brainer as the Pixel “a” series. They bring most of the goodness that you get from their bigger counterparts, but they drop just enough for a sensible price tag.
Speaking of price tags, earlier rumors that we covered made it seem like the Google Pixel 8a was going to get an increase in price over the Pixel 7a that came out a year before. However, we can now take a sigh of relief, at least for Pixel lovers in the United States. Thanks to Smartprix who got an exclusive on the Pixel 8a, revealing how much the upcoming smartphone is going to cost in the US, and that's a starting price of $499 for the 128GB version — same as the Pixel 7a. The 256GB variant will get a slight bump to $559.
That's a very good price, considering that the Pixel has already been rumored to come with a few upgrades over last year's budget option from Google. First off, the newer chip means it should be able to support Gemini Nano just like the Pixel 8. It is also expected to increase the screen's refresh rate to 120Hz from 90Hz. There are rumors of an increase in battery capacity, though sources can't decide if it'll go from 4,385 mAh to 4,500 or 5,000 mAh.
Google I/O 2024 Will Make The Google Pixel 8a Official Next Month
Google I/O this year is going to commence on May 14th, which is exactly two weeks away. We know that Google is planning to talk about some of its products like Wear OS 5, Android TV, and Android 15. Naturally, we can also expect Google to bring some attention to its attempts in the AI space, particularly with Google Gemini.
However, one aspect of the event next month that we're really looking forward to is the announcement of the Google Pixel 8a. There's little that we don't know about the phone at this point, but it'll be great to have confirmation on all the specs.
There's a little buzz that Google is also planning to release a new variant of the Pixel Tablet, though it is not as much of a sequel as it is a refresh. Supposedly, it will simply drop the dock to become a real tablet.
