There was a lot of anticipation around the launch of Samsung's latest generation of S-series devices, and for the most part, that anticipation was well satisfied, especially for people who are fans of the Ultra model in the lineup. However, once the phones started getting into the hands of consumers, there were one or two things to complain about.
The first update for the Galaxy S24 series launched in South Korea about a week ago, but other regions are finally getting access to the long-awaited update, and it brings many much-requested improvements.
The First Update For The S24 Series Brings What The People Asked For
Even if you had no intention of buying a Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphone, you must have heard about their displays. Samsung has been known for vivid colors on their high-end AMOLED panels for several years now, so when the latest devices failed to bring that same degree of saturation, there were many complaints.
We went through Samsung telling us the duller colors on the S24 series were intended behavior and there was no update in the works, but they eventually admitted a fix would be included in the new update, and it is finally here. Now, when you go into the Screen Mode setting and choose Vivid, you'll have a Vividness slider that lets you crank up saturation to those rich colors most of us love.
That wasn't the only thing bundled with the update though, as there had been a few complaints about camera performance. Yes, the update fixes many of those issues, such as enhancing colors in Food mode, improving image quality in scenes with strong backlighting, and better white balance for Night Mode shots.
Customer Anticipation For The Galaxy S24 Lineup Was Off The Charts
The Galaxy S24 is shaping up to be one of Samsung's hottest releases in quite some time, with the pre-order numbers for the lineup putting the S23 figures to shame. The lineup was able to shatter pre-order records previously recorded in countries like South Korea, the Netherlands, the Philippines, India, and more.
In the Netherlands for instance, compared to the numbers that were recorded during the launch of the Galaxy S23, the S24 series marked a 50% increase over those. In South Korea, Samsung's home country, nearly 1.2 million pre-orders were made in the first seven days.
A Few Refinements, And A Lot Of AI
The Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24+ brought some very basic improvements to the table over the previous generation. The S24 Ultra saw more things get shaken up, with a new titanium frame, flat display, Corning Gorilla Armor, and a slightly reworked camera setup.
However, those upgrades weren't the selling point for anyone looking to upgrade from the previous generation. Instead, I'd say it's the Galaxy AI that the company marketed heavily before the launch event and during it (though some features will be trickling down to the S23). Features like Live Translate, Chat Assist, Generative Edit, Circle to Search, and more, really show how carefully the device's software was focused upon this year.
To be honest, there's a lot packed in the S24 software that may be worth an upgrade depending on what you're looking for.
