Rumored to launch sometime in January, Samsung's next Galaxy S series flagship is sure to be one of 2024's biggest hits. The Galaxy S24 series will, at least in the US, be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and according to the latest leaked information, may not follow the recent trend of offering up to 24GB of memory. It could, however, feature Corning's latest Gorilla Glass protection.
Next-Gen Protection
Moving on from Victus 2 protection, serial leaker Ice Universe says that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be the first to make use of Corning's new Gorilla Glass Armor product. Details on Gorilla Glass Armor are scarce with Corning having not yet made it official, something that will likely happen in conjunction with the Galaxy S24 series launch.
What we can say that it will no doubt offer increased protection for the glass surfaces of Samsung's newest flagship, above and beyond that provided by GG victus 2.
How Much Memory?
When you see the new OnePlus 12 being prepped for global launch with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X memory under the hood it's understandable to thing that Samsung might look at upping the memory game on its upcoming flagship series. Sadly, if the latest report is anything to go by, it would appear that the Galaxy S24 series will stay at the same levels as its predecessor.
That's right, according to Arsène Lupin's post on X/Twitter, even the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra will max out with 12GB of memory. In comparison, even mid-range handsets are launching with 12GB of RAM which could pose problems for the Galaxy S24 and S24+ models when it comes to the numbers game. We've laid out the reported memory and storage configurations of the Galaxy S24 for you below.
Galaxy S24
- 8/128GB
- 8/256GB
Galaxy S24+
- 12/256GB
- 12/512GB
Galaxy S24 Ultra
- 12/256GB
- 12/512GB
- 12GB/1TB
The news shouldn't come as any great surprise though, Samsung isn't known for following trends. Needless to say, the base model Galaxy S24 will have 8GB of memory. With pricing for the Galaxy S24 series unknown at the present time, it could be that Samsung is attempting to keep any price increases to a minimum by keeping RAM capacities the same.
Will it impact on performance? Only time spent with one of the new phones will confirm.
Which Colors?
As an added bonus, Lupin also reports on which colorways will be offer for each model. It may be that these will be the most common options available from third-party retailers and carries because Samsung usually keeps a few options exclusive to those ordering from its online store.
Gray, Black, Violet, and Yellow are the four color options available on each of the three Galaxy S24 variants. Hopefully Samsung will have more colorful hues on offer for those buying direct.
Opinion
Whatever your thoughts on Samsung are, the brand is the number one purveyor of Android smartphones in the world. Making millions of sales each year, the company is often slow to change basic specifications and design choices but, as we've seen over the past few years, there are few brands that can match Samsung's commitment to timely software updates for its flagship smartphones. Even Google was behind the curve in this respect until its recent Pixel 8 series launch.
Let us know in the comments below if you take RAM capacities into account when choosing your next smartphone, and if it might drive you towards the new OnePlus 12 and 12R which are coming soon to the global market.
