Alongside the Pixel 8 series we can expect Google to launch a successor to last year's Pixel Watch which ran on an Exynos processor and was the first non-Samsung smartwatch to run Wear OS 3. The development of the Pixel Watch 2 came as something of a surprise with reports suggesting that it may launch with a similar design to its predecessor but with a significant chip upgrade.
Thanks to 9to5Google we now know that there are a pair of Pixel Watch 2 variants running under the codenames of “Eos” and “Aurora”. Rather than being different case sizes its more likely that the codenames are for WiFi and cellular models.
Possibly the most exciting rumor is that the Pixel Watch 2 could be upgraded to a Qualcomm chip which should mean the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset will be under the hood. If true, this would bring big boosts to both the performance and battery life departments thanks to it being manufactured using a modern process in comparison to the Exynos W930 that will debut on Samsung's Galaxy Watch 6 series.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Pixel Watch design as I feel it's a little dated but it's passable and not the end of the world if it gets another run out on the Pixel Watch 2 which seems very likely.
