MWC 2023 has officially kicked off and Honor has gone all in by announcing not one but two flagship smartphones – the Magic 5 Pro and the intriguing Magic Vs foldable. The Magic 5 Pro is the follow-up to last year's excellent Magic 4 Pro (review here and features Qualcomm's new flagship chipset as well as a trio of 50MP rear cameras that come with some new tricks.
Powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, the Magic 5 Pro also features 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of built-in storage (UFS 4.0).
The 6.81-inch LTPO AMOLED display has QHD+ resolution, adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and 2160Hz high-frequency dimming. On top of this, there is also 480Hz touch sampling, an under-display fingerprint reader, and a peak brightness level of 1,800 nits. There are also a few abbreviations supported such as HDR10+ and IMAX Enhanced which will be useful when viewing content.
The display also benefits from a Discrete Display Chipset which improves the ‘visual quality of moving images' by delivering a higher frame rate with lower power consumption for a smoother gaming experience.
The rear cameras consist of a trio of 50MP sensors of differing capabilities. There's a 50MP main camera with OIS and a large sensor for increased light-sensing performance, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens that is capable of 5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. The telephoto lens benefits from an algorithm called Ultra Fusion Computational Optics which improves the clarity of images at 3.5x-100x zoom. The new ‘Falcon Capture' tech aids the capture of fast-moving objects.
Finally, the 5,100mAh battery supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, which gives it a leg up on phones such as the OnePlus 11. Honor is launching the Magic 5 Pro with MagicOS 7.1 which is based on Android 13, with the promise of 3 OS updates and 5 years' worth of security patches.
Priced from €1,099, the Magic 5 Pro will launch Black and Meadow Green colorways in the UK and EU sometime during May.
