It's fair to say that 2023 could finally be the year that foldable smartphones come in to their own thanks to multiple brands such as Oppo and Honor launching their foldables in western markets for the first time. And there's more, because during MWC 2023 OnePlus threw its hat into the ring officially with news that it too will launch a foldable phone this year.

Set to launch sometime in Q3, the OnePlus foldable will be a flagship device with the “signature OnePlus fast and smooth ecperience”. It has also been confirmed that it will be powered by a flagship Snapdragon processor, Rumors point to the presence of a 2K display which would be an upgrade over the excellent Oppo Find N2 from which it will draw at least some inspiration from.

“Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn't settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market.” said Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlus at the event.”

With OnePlus set to join the foldable segment it will bring increased choice for the consumer that, in the west at least, was limited to buying a Samsung Galaxy Z series device or taking the chance on importing a unit from China via a third-party seller.
