Motorola

It's been a while since Motorola's Razr 5G made its debut but there is credible evidence that the brand is working hard on a successor to the clamshell foldable which will be called the Razr 2022 and set for launch on August 2nd This time, Motorola seems to be taking aim at Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4 by equipping the Razr 2022 with flagship hardware such as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the same silicon that is purported be under the hood of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 which will be announced on August 10th.

Details of the Razr 2022's specifications came to light in both an official post by Motorola on Weibo and via China's TENAA regulatory body (similar in function to the FCC).

  • Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Processor
  • 8/12/16GB RAM
  • 128/256/512GB Storage
  • No MicroSD support
  • 6.67-Inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution
  • 2.65-Inch External OLED display with 800 x 573 resolution
  • Ultrawide Camera
  • WiFi6
  • 3,500mAh battery
  • 166.99 x 79.79 x 7.62mm
  • 200g

According the dimensions listed above, the Razr 2022 will be ever so slightly larger and heavier than Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3, but that's ok because Motorola's foldable packs in a battery with 200mAh more capacity. One area that leaves a lot of speculation is the camera department, and it's something that Motorola isn't exactly known for excelling in. Hopefully, the Razr 2022 will sport high-quality sensors which will enable the phone to stand up to Samsung's alternative.

The TENAA listing says that the Razr 2022 will be available in the following colorways:

  • Black, White, Blue, Cyan, Green, Gold, Red, Silver, Gray

For the moment, there's no word on pricing and availability so we'll have to keep a close eye on the launch event which is being held next week on August 2nd.
