With WhatsApp being one of the most popular messaging platforms in the world, its desktop client and Web app have been limited to offering messaging functionality. This could soon change, though, with the news that the company is busy preparing to add voice and video calling to the desktop client and web app.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently beta-testing voice and video calls for its browser-based client and Web app (Windows and Mac). Considering how Facebook's Messenger and Google's Duo already offer the option of making and receiving calls without the need to pick up a smartphone, it's a surprise that the feature isn't already available on WhatsApp.
There's no knowing when WhatsApp will roll out the ability to make and receive voice and video calls via its desktop client and web app, but hopefully it won't take as long as it took to give us the dark mode option.
I know that I would make use of the voice and video calling option if and when it comes to the desktop app, but what about you, the reader? Let us know in the comments below.
