We all know about the troubles that Huawei has faced over the past 18 months or so, ever since it was placed on the Entity List by the US government and banned from working with Google and accessing the search giant's apps and services. With further limitations on ordering its latest processors coming into effect during September, it's clear that Huawei is in for a rough ride in the months to come. Samsung, of course, is aware of Huawei's problems and not above pointing out the advantages of upgrading to one of its brand new flagships instead of sticking with the Chinese smartphone maker.
Samsung specifically targets the owners of Huawei's P30 Pro flagship from 2019, offering £350 in trade-in value if they upgrade to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra before November 8th. Besides offering £350 trade-in value for Huawei's P30 Pro, Samsung is also offering £250 for the regular P30 and the Mate 20 Pro, and up to £200 for the P20 Pro.
That isn't particularly worthy of being described as throwing shade, but the gif within the tweet certainly can because it asks the following question:
“How do you upgrade to the latest Huawei phone without losing your Google maps app?”
We all know the answer to that question is that it isn't possible, and while Huawei's AppGallery storefront has added the TomTom and HereWeGo navigation apps it doesn't have Google Maps or any other Google app. Naturally, Samsung advises Huawei customers to rather switch over to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
It's a cheeky comment by Samsung but all is fair in tech and sales, right?
