Samsung's got a lot going on next week. We're expecting a brand new line of Galaxy Note 20 devices, the next-gen Galaxy Fold 2, possibly some new tablets and smartwatches, maybe another pair of earbuds… despite being online-only, Unpacked 2020 is packed.
That might be why the company decided to pull the curtains back a little early on the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which you can actually pre-order on Samsung's website right now.
Galaxy Z Fip 5G Pre-order
For better or worse, this isn't actually one of the most exciting things that Samsung's rolling out next week. The 5G flavor of the Galaxy Z Flip is still pretty much the same old phone, including its clamshell design, but it does get a bump up to a Snapdragon 865 CPU in addition to the faster wireless connectivity.
This model being offered is just an unlocked phone, however, and it doesn't have support for Verizon's mmWave 5G. Keep that in mind if you're on Big Red's network.
The newer Galaxy Z Flip is priced at $1450, which isn't much of a jump over its predecessor. It's still eligible for a lot of Samsung's trade-in promos, though, so you can get one for as low as $799 depending on what you're trading in. It's still expensive, sure, but it's much more in line with what we want a flagship smartphone to cost, not the outrageous prices that Samsung has actually been asking lately.
Expect the phone to go live through other merchants and retailers after Unpacked next week, including through AT&T and T-Mobile.
