It’s fair to say that Samsung’s Galaxy S20 range of flagship smartphones have experienced a few issues ranging from camera focusing problems to displays that are tainted by a green tint. Now it seems that Galaxy S20 owners are experiencing problems when they try to charge their handsets.

The problem affects the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra handsets, with the phone either refusing to charge or cutting off the charging process after a few minutes, with users having to unplug the power cable and then plug it back in to continue charging. Some say that rebooting the phone seems to help for a period of time, although the issue soon reappears and it doesn’t matter if you are using an official or third-party charger. With the issue said to have appeared shortly after an update, it looks like it’s a software problem as opposed to a hardware fault, which is a good thing for Galaxy S20 owners.

  1. yeah. i had problem.
    thought it was pin in charger / lead.

    I seem to remember a metal bracket inside the charger port, i and bending and cleaning it with safety pin, whatever fitted. cable would not sit flush with phone as though someting blocks it. issue resolved, still ultra charges.

    this time phone was charging, i let it run out and it thought it was wet ( i have a cover since bought, s20 5g, grey market- for AUS).
    i then got no charging and or wet (yellow info. and no charge symbols).
    noticed something stick in corner again.
    did the pin thing again cleaning out, after force restart etc. is fast charging now off portable charger. (started off slow charging after a reset, took 5 mins to get past 1%, then got slow charging warning).
    issue fixed. clean your phone!

  2. Yep my s20 fe 5g stopped wired fast charging after about 4 months, then stopped wired charging at all. Its a grey market import from another region so samsung wont touch it despite under warranty. bought a qi charger as a work around. if I turn on fast carge only qi works (inc. fast) but no wired. If I turn off fast charging I can then slow charge off cable and qi.

    my wife has a local s20 fe 5g also in warranty and from this region, hers will slow wired charge or fast wireless. only gets to 30% on wired overnight though. must be widespread problems with charge on s20 models.

  3. I have a Samsun S20 FE, the charger port suddenly stopped working, trouble shooting, checking multiple cables, power connectors, and a forced restart, phone is dead, wont charge at all.
    I took it to repairs, and the repair under warranty simply told me that:
    IMEI validation : An error occurred during the automatic validation process. Please validate the I.M.E.I manually, electrical parts replaced.
    It has been exactly 31 days and the phone without warning has stopped any charging capabilities.

    Now I have to send my phone in for another undisclosed amount of time, and loose all my data again.
    As a huge promoter of Samsung, it physically hurts me when I say I am moving to Apple technology.

  4. After updating “SECURITY PATCH LEVEL : 1 APRIL 2021” charging and AKG earphones not working

    1. Mine happen after july 2021 update . any solution so far ? if i put the akg earphone, it will detect moisture and wont let me to charge unless i bypass it or use wireless charger.

My phone charging port did recently stop working as well which ia super annoying when I listen to music in my car with it and also when I plug it in in the mornings while I get ready for work and then I go to take it off the charger and its still not even charged after 2 hours. The touch screen is also really crappy at times. T-mobile screwed me into getting this phone and now I am stuck with it.

  6. Same here with Note 20 ultra. The charge always stop with third party usbc and sometimes with the original as well. The same happens with the samsung decks as well. it disconnected all the time. i have never this kind of problems with my previous note 8.

    1. same problem my charger port just stopped working overnight. now i cant get it to work with any lead i can only wirelessly charge it. i only got the phone so i can usb tether 5g so im really pissed. my friend got the same phone at the same time and he has the same problem. i don’t see how its not been recalled

  7. Same here S20 plus verizon on android 11 it worked fine for about a week then it just refuses to super fast charge for more than 2 to 3 seconds then it just stops charging completely if i flip usb c connector it will then display “charging” and will slow charge sometimes.

Hi got a Samsung S20 and also experiencing some issues with charging . have tried rebooting and it just seems to charge and stop. has been on 15 % all day long no matter how long its tried to charge. also tried charging while completely turned off. checked all my setting to see if anything was draining my battery and nothing. phone is only about 3 months old!

  9. Samsung S20, updated to October patch night before, in the morning plugged into car for Android Auto…warning pops up “Check charger/USB port – Moisture has been detected….”. The phone has never been near water what a load of BS!
    What a joke of a phone, its been issue after issue, bad camera quality, stupid screen design / accidental presses etc..this will be my first and last Samsung phone.

  10. ON DAY 3 !! my Brand new S20 FE 5G gave error message that the charger is wet and needs to dry.. .. it has not charged at all since 26 October !! I bought it on 21 October. :( Extremely frustrated, I should have stayed with Apple because it would have been sorted immediately. Never ever buy Samsung again.

  11. I seem to be having the same problem. My s20 ultra has been on a charger for 3 days and is just now on 89%. Starting to think this is a 1600 dollar paper weight

  12. I’ve also got an S20+ which is doing this. 1 month old. Currently saying it will take 6 hours to charge but this ETA seems to change every few minutes from 1-6 hours with the supplied fast charger. Not impressed at all.

  13. What the heck! Galaxy S20 only 3/wks old. Tried multiple chargers,
    and keep getting pop ups saying check the charger. Which has me thinking its the hardware issue. Giving me anxiety when my battery is on 30% and I have no means to charge it. Can I just get a new phone? Can I swap this S20 for and S10?? Only reason why I got the S20 was because the Verizon store didn’t have any S10s.

  14. Can confirm. Currently dealing with this problem. S20+ about 2 weeks old. Would initially plug it in and put it down without looking at screen. After a few days with it, I noticed sometimes it would be fully charged rather quickly, and other times I’d return and expect it to be fully charged, yet it wasn’t even close. Started paying attention to the screen when plugging it in to note charging speed. Sometimes rebooting phone will allow ‘super fast’ to start working again, other times it doesn’t. Currently, it refuses to charge any faster than “cable charging” with the OEM charger and cable. Sometimes i’ll plug it in around 45% it’ll say ‘super fast charging’, I’ll watch it for a minute to be sure, walk away, then come back in an hour and realize it’s only at 60% and no longer charging *at all*. Unplug, re-plug, it’ll start ‘super fast charging’, and then immediately change to ‘cable charging’ for no reason. Other times all i can get it to do is ‘cable charging’, like right now, without it even attempting ‘super fast’. Tried flipping the plug 180 at both phone and at the charger & inspected cable and ports to be sure they’re free of any lint or debris. Cannot determine what the issue is. This is driving me absolutely mad.

  15. Where did you get this information? I have 4 S20s and a S20+ in my household and none of us are experiencing this issue.

    1. My Samasung Galaxy S20 Ultra started doing this the last few days. I’ve had it for about 2 months with no issues till now. I’ve tried different power cords, different charging blocks, and charging wireless, all are samsung brand chargers with no difference. I just updated it tonight so I’ll see if the update helps.
