The Galaxy S20 Ultra's reception seems to be all over the place so far. It's really a great phone, but some quirky issues (like the autofocus problems on the camera) and extremely high price tag have turned some heads, but not in a great way.
Now some users are reporting a green screen tint issue with the latest software update, which feels like something that shouldn't happen with a $1400 phone.
Galaxy S20 Ultra green screen
When we say green screen tint, we really mean it. The phone seems to put a very, very green tint over everything, and it started after the most recent OTA update. A restart fixes it, which very fortunately means that this is a software issue, so another OTA update should be able to fix it down the line.
It's only affecting Exynos variants of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, adding more fuel to the fire of which version is better. It also seems to only happen with a high refresh rate mode turned on, and only in certain apps, like Samsung Pay, the camera, PUBG, or Chrome. Unfortunately, it seems like it's happening in some really popular apps that you're probably using.
Some early user testing seems to think that this tint happens when an app doesn't support the higher refresh rate and temporarily drops the screen resolution back down to 60Hz. This can also happen when the battery gets low or the phone heats up, too. The tint is really only visible below 30% screen brightness, but that's going to cover a lot of indoor usage, so I don't know if that's really a silver lining to this.
