It's a question that OnePlus fans have been asking since, well, seemingly forever; where is the Always-on-Display feature? It's always been a surprising omission on OnePlus's part considering that it has used AMOLED displays since the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus X. There is finally good news at hand, though, because after running its IDEAS campaign over the past eight weeks, OnePlus has chosen to confirm that it is working on adding the Always-on-Display feature.
The bad news is that OnePlus mysteriously says that it's going to take a few months to implement, with the initial development scheduled for completion sometimes next month and open and closed beta programs running around August/September if everything goes as planned.
I admit that I'm a cynic, but this kinda smacks of OnePlus waiting until the OnePlus 8T Series (in September?) before AOD gets added to OxygenOS, with older handsets gaining the feature at a later date in a stable release.
Anyhow, at least Always-on-Display is finally coming to OnePlus handsets after years of being a surprising omission. AOD is one of five features chosen from the community-led IDEAS campaign, with the other four chosen ideas being a battery-full chime, app drawer folders, Zen Mode enhancements, and biometric for hidden images.
