After launching its V60 ThinQ (reviewed here) earlier in the year, LG has confirmed that it will announce its new ‘Velvet' smartphone during an online-only event on May 7th. LG is believed to be following a new strategy with the Velvet in that the rumors point to it sporting Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G processor instead of its flagship Snapdragon 865 chip.
LG posted a video a little while ago that revealed the Velvet's new “Raindrop” design with a trio of rear cameras and flash module vertically arranged from big to small. The handset is also said to come in the following four color options:
- Aurora Gray
- Aurora Green
- Aurora White
- Illusion Sunset
As you can tell from the colorways listed above, it would seem that LG has finally realized that offering phones in shiny, boring colors such as dark blue or black don't do a phone's design any favors. The Velvet's colors are a definite step up from what we've seen from LG, who, after producing phones with unique rear panels such as the G4 and the Flex, just seemed to give up and try to hide in the background.
Anyway, I digress. The Velvet's online launch event is being held on May 7th from 9AM ET/ 2PM BST and live-streamed via LG's official YouTube and Facebook channels.
