Following news of a powerful 108MP binned primary camera sensor in Samsung's upcoming flagships, we've now heard the entire S11 series will also use a 48MP binned sensor for zooming.
We've been seeing a steady increase in the number of leaks Samsung's next-gen flagship Galaxy S11 series in the lead up to their expected announcement and launch on February 18th next year, one of the most intriguing being the reveal of a new 108MP (12MP binned) primary camera sensor with 9:1 pixel binning by reliable Samsung leaker Ice Universe.
Following up on that juicy leak, though, Ice Universe has delivered once again with minimal delay, bringing us the info that all of the S11E, S11, and S11+ will all feature a 48MP (12MP binned) zoom sensor on the rear as well; a sensor of calibre typically used for primary sensors, such as in Samsung's imminent S10 Lite series:
This calibre of camera sensor will surely be the highest quality zoom sensor on the market at its release, but in Ice Universe's leaking of it he also reveals that Samsung will indeed launch the same range of S11E, S11, and S11+ devices like the S10E, S10, and S10+.
This also further confirms that even the S11E will feature the suite of standard, ultrawide, and zoom cameras on it in 2020 when the S10E sacrificed the zoom camera versus its more expensive brethren in 2019. Though I would guess in 2020 the S11E will instead sacrifice the Time-of-Flight sensor expected on the standard S11 and S11+; a pretty minor loss that will likely merely slightly reduce cutout quality for ‘portrait' modes.
Samsung's next-gen flagships continue to grow in power and could provide a very exciting next step for mobile photography, but we'll have to wait a couple more months to find out (with further leaks undoubtedly unofficially revealing all beforehand, of course).
