Facebook teased a simplified redesign for its Messenger app earlier this year, also indicating that the next refresh for the app would come with a dark mode. Now that update is finally rolling out from Facebook directly, so users should expect to see it over the coming weeks.
The update rearranges the navigation bar on the app to try and clean things up, sticking with just three tabs at the bottom: chats, contacts, and explore. The new chat and camera buttons have been relocated to the top right of the interface.
Other things that were previously in the app, like games and searching for businesses, have been tucked away into the explore tab.
Otherwise, though, the interface only has a few small tweaks. There's way more white and Material Design inspiration here, but much of it looks like change for the sake of change. But hey, at least dark mode can balance out all that color if it's not your thing.
The update will be coming server-side from Facebook, so don't waste any time trying to find newer APKs to sideload. It'll be a gradual upgrade that users should see trickling out soon.
