Dark mode is coming to YouTube's Android app 4

Google likes to bounce back and forth between light and dark modes on their apps, and we've seen our share of both over the past few years. Material Design updates brought its share of bright white app and website interfaces, but we've started to see things swing back towards darker themes lately, and YouTube has been caught in the middle of this trend.

Google has revamped their YouTube interface over the past few months and added in the option for dark mode, which we've seen on both Android TV and the web interface. However, many users are watching a ton of YouTube on the go, so what about an option for a dark theme on mobile devices?

Well, as of today, Google has turned on that option for the YouTube app, but only on iOS. Bummer, right? Fortunately, the Android app will supposedly be following in its footsteps, but we don't know exactly how long that'll be. Pretty typical Google.

With all of that being said, if you have a rooted device and really don't want to wait, XDA has a guide on getting dark mode enabled early. Apparently most of the work has already been done on Google's end, so at this point it likely just needs a bit of polishing up. Keep in mind that you may see a few slight issues if you do decide to use the power user workaround.
