Android Oreo starts a limited rollout on BlackBerry KEYone 2

Over the past couple days, an update to Android 8.0 Oreo started rolling out to a subset of BlackBerry KEYone devices. That subset of devices is limited to those in the Canadian market. For owners in Canada, one bit of good news is that the update is hitting both unlocked and carrier devices. For everyone else around the globe with a BlackBerry KEYone, the wait will continue although there is hope that the update should not be far off for other markets.

The update to Android Oreo comes about a year and a half after the device was originally launched and against the backdrop of Android 9.0 Pie being launched by Google.

Users on the Rogers network will find that they are getting a little bonus with the update – the addition of a new WiFi calling feature.

As is usually the case, owners of the BlackBerry KEYone in Canada should see a notification appear on their device to let them know the system update is available. If they are impatient or suspect some problem with that notification, they can check for the update manually by going into settings and then system updates.
