There's a big reason for Google to celebrate today.
Can you believe it's already been four years since we were introduced to the Chromecast? That's right. It was on this day in 2013 that the device debuted. Little did we know the Chromecast would go on to become one of the most popular digital media players in history.
More than 17 million units were sold in less than two years, and in late 2016 the company reported 30 million units sold upon the launch of the Chromecast Ultra.

Google's approach to big-screen entertainment with a dongle has been very successful based on those numbers. The ecosystem behind the Chromecast has gone from a handful of apps to a catalog in the thousands. But the actual cause for success is in the technology's simplicity. It's just you, your television, and the apps on your mobile device. Never before was it so straightforward (and affordable) to get all of your entertainment on a television.
Now we see the Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, and countless Google Cast-powered devices around the world. It all started with one, though. One little $35 dongle that won the hearts of millions.
