Still, Furious—streaming on Disney+—emerged as one of the most watched and talked-about dramas.
Elizabeth Meriwether’s Distinctive Perspective
Elizabeth Meriwether, known for creating New Girl, is at the helm of Furious. She stages a gripping confrontation between FBI agent Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) and Catherine Grace (Lola Petticrew), a survivor of sex trafficking who channels her pain into a quest for vengeance.
What sets Furious apart isn’t just the crime plot—it’s Meriwether’s knack for weaving in her signature dark humor, a carryover from her comedy background. A significant shift would be required, as the first season was inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow, a source Meriwether would have to move beyond if the series returns.
For now, no date or renewal confirmation has been announced by Disney. Still, given the show’s strong critical reception, high audience numbers, and Meriwether’s clear enthusiasm, the chances of seeing Alice Black pursue another case aren’t out of the question.
