Google announced two new divisions of Hangouts today, and the video-based offering is already live on the Play Store for you to try on an Android phone or tablet.
Hangouts Meet is Google's new video conferencing platform for businesses.
Here's the list of Hangouts Meet's features from the Play Store listing:
- High-definition video meetings with up to 30 participants
- Easy access meetings – just share a link and anyone can join with one click
- Every meeting has a dial-in number for team members who prefer to call in
- Integrated directly with Calendar, making it easy to see important meeting details and join instantly
The app along with most features are free; however, Google is limiting select capabilities to G Suite Enterprise Edition accounts. But, for the most part, you should get a pretty useful video conferencing platform for a little-to-no money.
Remember that you don't actually need an Android device to use Hangouts Meet. Google is letting anyone with the dial-in number join as if it were a traditional phone call rather than a web-based video call. This provides businesses with needed flexibility for when employees and external individuals are unable to use their phone, tablet, or computer's camera.
