Casio at CES 2017 took the wraps off of its new outdoor focused smartwatch, the WSD-F20. The naming convention might feel uninspired, but it makes some notable improvements over last year's smartwatch.

Last year, Casio launched the WSD-F10 as its first Android Wear-powered smartwatch. It was geared towards those with a knack for the outdoors, featuring a lot of technology for tracking different types of activities all while being resistant to the elements. And now, Casio is back, improving upon the WSD-F10 with the WSD-F20 this year.

The big improvement over last year's smartwatch is that not only is the WSD-F20 running Android Wear 2.0, but GPS functionality has also been added this time around.

It's worth noting that WSD-F10 owners won't be left in the dust, though. They'll Get Android Wear 2.0 when Google rolls it out in Spring 2017.

At first, the WSD-F20 might appear to be almost a clone of the WSD-F10. And on the design front, it does, though it is quite a bit more rugged than the WSD-F10. But, now equipped with a low-power GPS sensor, it's functionality is quite a bit more extensive. Additionally, the WSD-F20 is able to track a bunch of new activities as well as giving the user the option to download online or offline color maps.

One neat thing about the GPS functionality is that, even when your offline, the watch will be able to track your location. With a newly included Location Memory application, this allows you to customize your map with markers without needing to worry about having a data connection.

Beyond that, there's some minor improvements, such as anti-fouling coating on the touchscreen, making it less susceptible to fingerprint smudges.

Casio's WSD-F20 won't be available until April 21. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it'll no doubt take the WSD-F10's $500 slot. We'll hear more launch-specific details as we get closer to launch day.
