Samsung-4K-UHD-VR-display4K displays in a virtual reality headset might happen sooner than you think. Samsung has shown off an ultra HD screen that's intended to be used in VR applications, which should offer a considerable bump in quality and pixels over what we're using in headsets right now.

The display itself was a 5.5-inch screen with a 3840 x 2160 resolution, although the refresh rate was unspecified. Resolution is extremely important for VR, but being able to maintain a high framerate is also a big deal, so that's something to keep an eye on with these new screens.

Samsung says this screen is still in a prototype phase, so you probably won't see it in the Galaxy Note 6 Note 7, but beyond that it's anyone's guess.

Aside from the extremely high-resolution screens, Samsung also showed off some new tech called Bio Blue. It helps screens display less blue light (only 6% as opposed to 32% on a typical AMOLED display) which should, theoretically, cause less eye strain. That's key when you consider that you have to strap a screen to your face to use virtual reality headsets. It will obviously have an effect on screens besides those in VR accessories, too, but that seems like where we'll see the biggest improvement.

Virtual reality is looking very exciting, folks.
