The Google News & Weather application has been bundled with stock Android for quite some time. While it can be considered useful, Google has left it relatively the same since the days of Android 2.3 Gingerbread back in 2011. Today, the Google News & Weather app has been completely redesigned to represent the company's vision for the operating system and its design language.

The design of the app is brand new and is very similar to Google Now with the cards layout. Everything is very clean and swiping is utilized greatly. When approaching this app for this first time, everything should be familiar considering Google has gone with a familiar design. It stacks stories and weather near each other so there is no hopping around to find out simple information. Also, the weather data can be pulled from the users current location or a preset one.

The new Google News & Weather app allows users to keep subscriptions to certain subjects, as it did before. Simply add a topic with search terms/phrases and the app will pull content accordingly. Google has made everything with this new version link to your Google account. So everything stays with you regardless of the device being used.

For widget-friendly users, Google has included a very nice selection. The large 4×1 widget includes both news and weather, so that could be useful for many people. This widget will actually operate like a ticker and keep things incoming and fresh.

    1. It has oddly been saying that for many people looking to download it, myself included. I guess Google is doing yet another slooooow rollout.
