The Nexus 5 was based on LG's G2, so it would only seem natural that the Nexus 6 would be based on the G3.

But this is not so, according to LG exec Ken Hong, at least.

In an interview, Hong said that the company “was not informed” about the Nexus 6, and joked that the company probably left him out of the loop when the device was passed around internally.

There have been rumors that the Nexus 6 will never exist, due to the upcoming Android Silver product line said to replace the Nexus concept for Google — and Hong confirms these rumors.

However, LG is rumored to be working closely with Google on the first Android Silver device, which will have a 64-bit processor, and should run stock Android. While Hong didn't confirm anything regarding Android Silver, he didn't specifically say that there isn't such a phone in the works.

  1. This Silver project sounds cool, but the loss of the Nexus program sounds completely uncool. Hopefully it’s just rumours. Unless this silver project has requirements, like no front buttons, limited bezel and stock Android…

    1. Android Silver will probably just be a more expansive version of Nexus, but for OEMs to create these devices freely, without hand-holding from Google. There will be requirements (like you said) that will make the device an official “Android Silver” phone and Google will most likely help in the marketing aspect of these devices by offering them through the Play Store.
