Glasses1In October of last year there was a small rumbling that Samsung would be throwing its hat in the smartglasses ring with its own version of Glass. A patent filing that was later “confirmed” shows a device that would connect to your smartphone via a micro USB cable. According to an unnamed company official, we could see the device, dubbed as Galaxy Glass, at IFA in September.

While the company dipped its toe in the wearables market with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Samsung would be going all in with Galaxy Glass as it sees the wearable as something that would need a considerable investment. According to the company:

The new smart glass to be introduced by Samsung is a new concept of wearable device that can lead to an exciting culture of communication. The smart glass will present our aim to lead the new market with proven capability. Wearable devices can’t generate profits immediately. Steady releases of devices are showing our firm commitment as a leader in new markets.”

Galaxy Glass would function much like Google Glass in that it would show users their notifications, location and fitness information. The device would have headphones built in allowing for music listening and hands free calling.

Hopefully though, Samsung will take it in an opposite direction to that of Galaxy Gear and allow the device to be paired with non-Samsung devices too. We won't know for certain until September.
