Last month, we brought you a story about the 10-inch Lenovo LePad Android tablet headed to China in December. We were cautiously optimistic that a US release would be soon to follow, but Lenovo has announced that they will not be releasing an Android tablet in the US until Android 3.5, codename Honeycomb, is released in early 2011.
Lenovo COO Rory Read seems to agree with Google that Android 2.2 (Froyo) is not yet ready for tablets, saying that is not “the right base to have a fully functioning pad.”
The company has also announced that they will not be pursuing a Windows 7 based tablet, saying that “Windows 7 is based on the same paradigm as 1985 — it's really an interface that's optimized for a mouse and keyboard.”
So, if you were interested in the LePad and were wondering when you may be able to get one in the US, you will just have to keep waiting to find out like the rest of us. Stay tuned.
