HTC Flyer Wannabe "PocketBook A7" Coming, Only Sporting Gingerbread 4

We hope this doesn't become a reoccurring theme around these parts, but here's yet another tablet being released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board instead of Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich.  I suppose this isn't worse than putting Gingerbread on a 10.1-inch tablet like some have done, cough cough ViewSonic.  But still, Gingerbread on a tablet?  This certainly can't appeal to the person looking to be more productive on a daily basis with their newly invested tablet.  In steps small manufacturer PocketBook and their new follow up to the 701 model dubbed the PocketBook A7.

The device is hoping to steal as many hearts as possible in the eReader dept but that's not the most interesting part.  What's interesting is that this device is extremely reminiscent of HTC's popular Flyer tablet.  One odd oddity is that there is no support for standard Google applications.  Instead, you'll find a couple of third party applications like Dolphin Browser and Adobe's Digital Editions pre-installed.  There's still no price availability yet nor is there an official release date but don't worry about it, we'll find out for you.  We assume it will stand somewhere just below the $200 dollar mark if they want to stay relevant in the industry and stand toe to toe with devices like the Amazon Kindle Fire.  So, here's to hoping this will be a hit and if not, it may go the way of the Nook in that it could be a secret gem among the dev community as they have their way with it.

A7 Specs:

  • 1 GHz Single -Core CPU
  • 512 MG of RAM
  • 4GB Storage
  • MicroSD Card Slot
  • 1024 x 600 Res
  • 7-inch Capacitive Touch Display
  • 2MP Front-Facing Camera
  • Gingerbread 2.3.7
