As we already know, Instagram is coming to Android and it’s a highly anticipated app. As Android fans continue to wait, the rumor now is that Windows Phone might actually get it first.
Fastcompany is reporting that a source said that Microsoft and Instagram are working together. That doesn’t seem out of the realm, but why would Windows Phone get it first? Maybe it’s less fragmentation or maybe it’s money that Microsoft might throw at the developers.
When asked about the situation, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom didn’t have much to say, “Other than having pre-announced Android, we don’t comment on roadmap stuff.”
I’m not sure there’s much of a story here. We just reported that Windows Phone has a 1.3% market share in the U.S. so it simply doesn’t make sense. The only way is if Microsoft threw a lot of money at them. If that’s the case, so be it. We know it’s coming to Android, and I find it hard to believe that Android owners will jump ship for an app that’s eventually going to be available to them as well.
