Sony Ericsson has Ice Cream Sandwich on their to do list, bringing the latest OS to phones from the 2011 Xperia line, including phones like the Xperia Arc and the Xperia Play. The official statement from Sony Ericsson Nederland is as follows:

We are planning to upgrade our 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio to the next Android platform, following Gingerbread 2.3.4. The official Sony Ericsson communication about software upgrades will always be what my international colleagues publish on our Blog:http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/

It’s always good to hear manufacturers keeping their products’ software up to date. It’s necessary, to keep up security, and in the case of ICS, to get all those nifty new features.

Not impressed, as always SonyEricsson is full of promisses and delivery in far future. Once update will arrive it will delete everything, starting with applications down to your contact details that should not be touched.

Bah – I’m still waiting for Telstra Australia to release the “xLoud” and/or most recent “Gingerbread” update, so I’m not going to hold my breath for Android 4.x becommming available anytime soon…

Good luck with that Gregory, just make sure you back up all your data before update.
After having operator locked HTC Hero, I took decision to pay little extra on unlocked HTC Desire HD and that was win for me. No need to wait for operator to provide their messed up update

Yeah, well if they continue the trend of delaying and/or not releasing updates/upgrades, I can guarantee you that my next handset will be generic…
