It was pushed in a facebook update on the Settlers of Catan page that they have been working on an official Android version of the game to launch by June this year. The details were scarce, but one could start to imagine how this could be a huge multiplayer mobile app real fast given the popularity not only of the game itself, but with the online gameplay as well. Really the only people that would get excited over this (including myself) are people who love playing this game…and there is an army of Catan players out there!

That said, a few questions come to mind. How mush will this game cost, or will it be free? Does it log you into your existing PlayCatan online account and render the screen for Android devices? Is it an entirely re-designed game tailored for use with touchscreen devices? We’ll have to wait and find out, but we’ll keep you posted.

I’m a bit of a catan fan. I own every board game version, expansion, 5-6 player, etc. Usually play a game or two each day online.

Sadly, USM has not done well by iPhone and iPad users. Game was postponed for many, many months after announcing it was to be released, and while this is certainly not unusual or even unwelcome, the versions they finally released were buggy to say the least (frequent crashes mid game, didn’t save even when exiting normally, etc). To their credit, they have resolved most of the instability issues, but have failed to address the far more critical issue of playability. Can’t exactly put my finger on it, but after playing 30+ games on iOS, I get the distinct feeling the AI/difficulty/logic isn’t quite right (at least compared to the PC/Mac AI). To add insult to injury, the expansions have been just been released as separate apps (add-ons) rather than updates to what could be a fantastic port. Here’s hoping they do far better with the android version…

I do agree with all the ideas you’ve presented in your post. They’re really convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are too short for beginners. Could you please extend them a little from next time? Thanks for the post!!
