Google Home Max should be on store shelves by December 11th

We’ve known for weeks that the Google Home Max would be available in December and it’s looking like December 11th is the actual date. Google has fortunately stuck to the plan with the Max, unlike Apple that recently delayed their HomePod speaker until sometime in 2018. So if you’re looking for the ultimate smart speaker for the holidays, Google is probably your best source.

Best Buy has the Max listed for $399 with December 11th as the release date. That’s definitely not cheap compared the discounted Google Home (under $100) and Google Home Mini that could be found for around $20 on Black Friday. Google is currently listing the Mini for $29 at their online store (down from $49).

Like a flagship smartphone compared to a budget device like the Moto G5 Plus, you are getting more for the money. For starters, the Max comes with dual 4.5″ woofers for deep base and two custom tweeters for clear highs. The sound quality should be comparable to a Sonos speaker or the eventual HomePod, and Google said at the reveal that the Max would be 20 times louder than Google Home. Available connections to the speaker include Cast, Bluetooth and a 3.5mm auxiliary jack.

The Max will be available in two colors – Charcoal (basically black) and Chalk (light gray). Google is offering 12 months of ad-free YouTube Music with the purchase of a Max, although a YouTube Red subscription is required.
